A wholly owned subsidiary of NB Power Generation, NB Coal Limited currently has one producing operation - the Salmon Harbour mine in Minto, New Brunswick.
The Salmon Harbour site uses a Marion 8200 dragline and extracts approximately 150,000 tons of coal annually, used to generate electricity at the Grand Lake Thermal Generating Station.
NB Coal has operated at various times more than two dozen mines in the province of New Brunswick over the past 35 years. The subsidiary is now actively pursuing the reclamation of former mine sites.
Most of the land is being restored to its original natural state, which includes mixed forest growth, wetlands and ponds. Several sites have been reclaimed for alternate uses including a section of the Canada Trails system, fish rearing ponds, coniferous plantations, hay fields, and honey bee habitat.
One such mine is the Coal Creek North Pit 7 Mine
