Grand Lake Environment Testing Program

Why is this Study Being Done?

  • Soil, lake water, lake sediment and lake fish testing conducted by NB Department of Environment and Environment Canada in summer and fall of 2007 indicated that some metals were elevated above Canadian guidelines (excluding fish). This indicates that further investigation is required to determine if any action needs to be taken.
  • NB Power committed to the province and the local community to undertake the necessary additional testing to determine the significance of the government findings and report to the
    government and public.
  • NB Power continues to meet its requirements under its environmental license to operate the Grand Lake Station.
    • These levels are similar to other provinces and NB Power is in compliance due to air emission control (electrostatic precipitators) and water effluent treatment (waste water settling ponds)
